Adobe buys Macromedia

Posted by Sankar on April 20, 2005

I just came across this news… really shocking. Macromedia was rocking with its web dev suite of apps that includes Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Flash. I was a huge fan of Dreamweaver and Fireworks. They were awesome!!! I have never used another application that was that easy to use and yet powerful.

I am stunned that they would give in to the sale (it is not a merger…) The sale has been valued at approximately $3.4 billion according to Adobe’s press release. Even though Adobe was the market leader in imaging, it was not even close in competing with Macromedia in related apps.

Adobe has emerged the clear winner in the sale. With its imaging products and Macromedia’s web dev suite of apps, and with no other major players in these areas, I guess Adobe has everything to rise even further.
