DaVinci Code Quest on Google

Posted by Sankar on April 17, 2006

Google is running a puzzle quest starting today (4/17). I believe this will run until mid-May to coincide with the release of the movie "The DaVinci Code".

Anyone can participate in the puzzle quest.

  1. […] Google's DaVinci COde Quest is just past its mid-way mark. When I first blogged about it, it was not yet launched and didn't know what was in store. I have been solving the puzzles each day for the past 2 weeks. And most of them are pretty interesting. One category of the puzzle is similar to Sudoku… just that you have to solve using symbols instead of numbers. There is also a Chess version in which you must determine the combination of moves that will result in a check-mate. There are 4 other categories. There is going to be 4 puzzles in each category with 6 categories in total. Each puzzle has a question following it. Some are easy and straight-forward, but some are out of the way. But you can always google for answers […]

I’m playing this game, but I would warn everyone who is playing to read the rules very
carefully. You DO NOT want to win this contest. It is fine to complete round one and
win the cryptex, but the grand prize winner is going to be in a world of hurt. They
(Sony) are going to send the grand prize winner an IRS form 1099 with a prize value
of $128,000 or so. You are going to owe taxes of $50,000 plus on this prize. Who would
have the time to take those 4 vacation trips in one year anyway and find 3 friends to go
with? Unless you are prepared to spend $50,000 on vacations this year the grand prize
is not for you. That leaves out most people who are not already multi-millionaires.

  3. That's right. Also, chances of the prizes are so slim that one should not even think about it.
It's the fun that is more important than the prizes. I am playing the game just for that and anyway, I believe the prizes are open only to US citizens. So that leaves out me as well as several others 🙂
